As the daughter of musical parents, Marie Murphy has been immersed in music since birth. She began studying violin as a young child and performed seriously throughout her teenage and young adult years, including all-state ensembles, youth and semi-professional orchestras, and a European performance tour. Her musical background includes both traditional and Suzuki training, which continue to shape her flexible and student-centered teaching style today.
Marie teaches children, teens, and adults at a variety of experience levels—from complete beginners to returning players rediscovering their love for music. Her lessons are rooted in the belief that music should remain a source of confidence, creativity, and joy throughout life.
Known for her warm, animated, and adaptive teaching style, Marie meets students where they are. While some students thrive on structure and clear goals, others need movement, humor, encouragement, or a slower pace to help build confidence. She enjoys working with students of different learning styles, tailoring lessons to help each individual feel successful, engaged, and excited to learn.
Marie believes deeply that musical discipline grows naturally when students feel encouraged rather than judged. She focuses on cultivating long-term enjoyment of music, celebrating milestones both large and small, and creating an environment where students feel comfortable trying new things without fear of failure.
For adult students especially, Marie understands the courage it takes to begin—or begin again. She respects the time, effort, and vulnerability involved in learning something new and strives to make lessons welcoming, rewarding, and pressure-free.
In addition to classical violin, Marie enjoys performing rock music and film scores and believes that exploring different musical styles helps students stay curious and inspired.
Outside of teaching, Marie has a background in Fine Arts and has always been drawn to the connection between creativity, craftsmanship, and expression. She believes it is never too late to learn the thing you’ve always wanted to try—and that music keeps the brain healthy, resilient, and alive at every age!
