Renting with Us

Why should I rent with a String Instrument Specialty Shop?
When you choose a string instrument specialty shop, you are working with people who are trained string musicians and luthiers that know the ins and outs of stringed instruments. If something goes wrong with your instrument, then we know exactly how to fix it properly. Having a trained luthier on site at all times gives the personalized touch that your instrument will be well taken care of in a timely manner.

What's special about the rental process?
We offer a 100% equity program with every rental. So 100% of your base rental price (excluding sales tax and damage protection) goes towards your eventual purchase. Every rental has free size exchanges with no changes to your rental contract; we know how important it is to have an accurately sized learning tool. We also offer free delivery to the school and the optional damage protection.

Pricing

But why are your prices higher than other places?
We understand that a quality instrument is important in the learning process. An instrument can teach the student almost as much as the teacher. A new student may not notice the sound quality difference in the first month, but they will avoid the frustrations of being locked into a subpar instrument contract when they have acquired the skills. We try and price match to our local competitors.

Is there a difference between used and new?
Surprisingly, stringed instruments have a higher chance of appreciating in value over time rather than depreciating like a car. Playing on a used instrument may sound better than a brand new instrument because the wood has a chance to "season" and acclimate to itself. Therefore we don't change the price for a new vs a used instrument. We will always only offer quality and filter out instruments that don't pass our standards.

What about if my student needs a smaller size?
We understand that students need an instrument that is appropriately sized to their body. So we don't charge less just because it is a smaller instrument. We want the student to be comfortable in their learning experience. With us, you are accumulating equity from the day you start renting instead of waiting to start purchasing when they are in a full size. That way, when the student is ready for a quality upgrade instrument you will always have equity to use making that investment less intimidating.

Equity

How does an equity program work?
Every month a portion of your rental payment is applied toward equity. When you are ready to make an instrument purchase you have that rental equity stored to reduce your out of pocket expense.

How much equity am I accruing every month?
For the first year you are accruing 100% of your rental payment (not including damage protection or state taxes). Every month after that you accrue 50% of that rental payment.

How much equity can I apply towards a purchase?
You can apply equity toward the purchase of an instrument not to exceed 50% of the price of the new instrument. You do not have to use all equity in your purchase.
For example, if you have accrued $600 in rental equity, you would need to purchase an instrument worth $1,200 or more to utilize all of the equity you accrued. Or, if you want to purchase an instrument worth $800, you would be able to use $400 of equity toward the purchase.

So you can elect for it today and then ask for it to be removed later, but then you will never be able to add it back on.
